Kamala Harris has made a huge impact on the United States as a whole, especially the young people of this country.
Harris is an American politician and attorney. She has recently served as the 49th Vice President of the United States of America from 2021-2025, under President Joe Biden. She was the first woman to ever hold this position in American history. Kamala Harris has made a big impact on history so far, and her story is far from over.
Kamala Harris was born on Oct. 20, 1964 in Oakland, California.
She went on to get a B.A. in political science and economics from Howard University. She later earned a law degree from Hastings College in 1989. Kamala earned a strong reputation in law for her hard fought battles against sexual abuse, drug trafficking, and violence.
Harris was not only the first ever female Vice President, but she is also the first Black person and first Asian American to hold that office. Before becoming Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris represented California in the United States Senate from 2017-2021. She was also California’s Attorney General from 2011-2017.
Lots of Kamala’s work ethic is from her mother, Shyamala Gopalan Harris. Her mother has taught her countless important lessons throughout her life. She was an avid cancer researcher. She died of breast cancer in 2009. One of the most known pieces of advice she gave her daughter was, “Kamala, you may be the first to do many things. Make sure you are not the last.”
Kamala has always stood her ground on what she believes in. Kamala Harris refused to defend Proposition 8 which would have banned same sex marriage. Kamala not defending it led to it being overturned in 2013.
