On Saturday, the Mountaineers defeated Palmerton High School, 9-8.

Stroudsburg went down early, with Palmerton scoring two runs in the top of the 1st inning. That deficit would not last long though, as Stroudsburg would score 3 runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead.

The Mountaineers would go up as much as 3 runs going into the final inning, where Palmerton scored 3 runs to tie it and send the game into extra innings. In extras, Palmerton utilized bunting to score two runs to make the lead 8-6.

In his first at-bat of the season, C John Gizzo, 11, ripped a single into left field to put a runner on to start the inning. INF Alex Pacitti, 11, drove in Gizzo to the lead in half. Stroudsburg used a hit-and-run with Pacitti on the bases and OF Brian Kitchell, 10, coming up to hit. Kitchell’s hit barely snuck over the shortstop’s glove to score Pacitti and tie the game.

Up would come P/1B Anthony Knight, 11, with a chance to win the game. Going into this at-bat, Knight had already driven in 3 runs in the game. He would hit one into the outfield and it would be enough to drive in Kitchell to win the game in walk-off fashion, 9-8.

This marks Stroudsburg’s first extra-inning win of the season and second walk-off win of the season. Since their first game against Pocono Mountain East, the team has scored 28 runs over three games including one-run victories over Palmerton and Easton.

The Mountaineers look to continue their hot streak today against Emmaus at 4:30 pm at Stroudsburg High School.
