Kendrick vs. Drake: SJHS shares opinion on recent rap beef

Hailey Abba
Albums and songs of Metro Boomin, Future, and Drake on Spotify and Youtube.

Metro Boomin and Future dropped “We Don’t Trust You” on Friday, March 22, 2024, about a month and a half ago. Kendrick Lamar, Drake and J. Cole on the song Like That.”

Many fans even noticed the title songs of Metro’s album contradicted the ones of Drake’s last album.

Kendrick references Drake’s latest album “For All the Dogs.” “First Person Shooter” which features J. Cole.

Cole rapped, “Love when they argue the hardest MC / Is it K-Dot? Is it Aubrey? Or me? / We the big three like we started a league.” Cole was rapping, referring to Kendrick’s nickname, “K-Dot”, and Drake’s real name Aubrey.

Kendrick went on to fire shots at the “Big Three.”  “Think I won’t drop the location? I still got PTSD / Mother(censored)  big 3, (censored), it’s just big me,” he spat. Kendrick went on to aim for Drake “Fore all your dogs gettin’ buried / That’s a K with all these nines, he gon’ see Pet Sematary.”

The song peaked on No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 but is now No.8 as of today.

“Aside from the song being an absolute banger, I was shocked when Kendrick called out “First Person Shooter” and the “big three” line in the song. I think his features on songs are always so good and make them better. It’s funny how Kendrick hasn’t really released any music of his own since his last album but dropped 4 songs in the past few days because of the beef. But I’m not complaining!”

— Kiesha Leonard, 9

Cole publicly responded to Lamar on ”7 Minute Drill” on April 5th when he released a surprise album “Might Delete Later.”

Not long after this diss track, he apologized to Kendrick at the Dreamville Festival in North Carolina on April 7, “I’m so proud of that project, except for one part. It’s one part of that (censored) makes me feel like, man, that’s the lamest (censored) I ever did in my (censored) life right? And I know this is not what a lot of people want to hear.”

He went on to explain that for the first time, he was being tested because the world was waiting for him to reply back and ask him what he was going to do. He was conflicted and knew how he felt about his peers, but the world wanted to see blood.

Cole later removed “7 Minute Drill” from all streaming services. It entered the Billboard Hot 100 at 6.

Not long after this, Metro and Future dropped another album “WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU,” on April 12. The very next day “Push Ups (Drop and Give Me 50),” came out. At first, people thought it was AI-generated, but it was confirmed it was Drake’s officially released on April 19.

There’s been memes circulating the internet of Drake. “Metro, shut your (censored) up and make some drums (censored).”

Drake posted a mariachi band singing this scene on his Instagram story, which has been going around TikTok. Fans are hoping for Metro Boomin to respond back and actually rap.

April 30th, Kendrick dropped “euphoria” firing back at Drake’s “Push ups.”

Kendrick raps about being Drake’s biggest haters. he even mentions how Drake has had plastic surgery and even goes on to mock his Toronto slang.

He comments about Drake’s blackness which is not the first time fans. Mos have heard this last time being with Rick Ross. Rick Ross is one of the first people to question Drake’s blackness and and even coined the term “Bbl Drizzy.”

Kendrick mentions Aubrey hanging out with younger artist to make himself seem “swag” like Lil Yachty mentioned in the song.

Drake event went on Instagram to post a clip from “10 Things I Hate About You, (1999)” which had fans in amusement. Others even relieved the track was named ‘euphoria’ after the series “Euphoria (2019),” which Drake is an executive producer of.

Fans also learned the original track was meant to be 19 minutes but it was shortened to 6 minutes.

Not long after, on May 3, Kendrick also dropped “6:16 in LA” on Instagram. Fans were going wild on social media. They realized it was a entendre with more than one meaning. One being Tupac’s birthday which was 6/16, Canadian Father’s Day, and even when “”Euphoria (2019)” released.

Later that day Drake responded back to Kendrick with “Family Matters” not even an hour after this was released Kendrick dropped “Meet the Grahams.” In both rappers disses they mention each others families.

Drake claimed that Lamar had beat his fiancée, Whitney Alford.

When asked about her opinion on who won the rap beef after “Meet the Graham,” Paige Torres says,”Kendrick definitely won, Drake dropped a diss and not even 16 minutes later Kendrick dropped “Meet the Grahams.” Kendrick spilled all Drakes secrets and info in one song, how are you going to come back from a diss that starts off addressing your son?”

Kendrick striked again dropping yet another diss track “Not Like Us.” Fans realized not only was the album cover of Drake’s house, but ti was on a predator app  with pins of members of OVO. OVO is a Canadian record label founded by Drake. Members include Drake himself, PartyNextDoor, Majid Jordon, Ray Woods, Dvsn and others.

Kendrick is better than Drake. Drake has a lot of pedophile allegations which Kendrick mentioned on “Not Like Us.” I love Kendrick so much and he was able to drop 3 disses in one week.

— Octavius Marte, 9

To add more fuel to the fire Metro Boomin made a beat diss “BBL DRIZZY BPM 150,” offering the best person to rap a verse on it would get a beat on the house. This was posted May 4th on Twitter.

On May 5th Drake responded to both of Kendrick’s disses with “The Heart Part 6.” The title of the track is referencing Lamar’s track, “The Heart Part 5” from his 2022 album “Mr.Morale & The Big Steppers.”

It did not surprise people that he did not address any pedophile allegations but instead only mentions not having an 11 year old daughter. In he goes on to explain how he planted a fake mole in OVO to feed Kendrick Lamar false information.

In “The Heart Part 6,” he mentions Millie Bobby Brown and how he has never looked at a teenager. He was friends with when she was only 14. However, Lamar never mentioned her in any of disses towards Drake.

Not many were expecting rappers to have beef this year  in general. Many students in SJHS think that Kendrick has prevailed over Drake. However there is still more to come with how many allegations both rappers have been throwing at each other.
