“In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” -Abe Lincoln

It is said that time is our greatest adversary. There is never enough time in the world to achieve everything we want. Days go by so quickly, an hour can feel like a minute, and five minutes can seem like five years. We spend so much time counting the seconds, going through life just to get to the next moment.

¨It’s funny because some days just drag on and feel so long, but other days go by so quickly. It feels like whiplash to me,¨ said junior Cora Valentin.

We think of the next thing, You have to get through this to get to that. We always think of the end result, but it’s not always about the end result.  Life is about the process and the experiences you gain on the way to the end result.  It’s easy to forget.

It goes quick, so quick that before you know it, you’re sitting in class on a Monday morning and then you blink your eyes and it’s Friday. And you wonder how quickly the week just flew by. Then you blink your eyes and it’s Monday all over again.

¨The school year feels so long, I can’t wait until the summer,¨ said Junior Maddie Coddle.

Live in the moment.

You’ve heard that saying time and time again, but it’s incredibly hard to follow. We spend so much time just hoping for the seconds to pass, but our time is very limited in the grand scheme of things. The class of 2023 knows this most of all right now, as they are about to say goodbye to these halls forever.

¨Deep breaths, always take deep breaths. Schoolwork is important, but always make time to spend with friends and family,¨ said Senior Cole DeHaven

Time never stops; not for you, or anyone. We can’t hit the pause button, even when we desperately want to. It’s the roller coaster ride of life we are forced to endure.

There are 86,400 seconds in one day. There are about 31,536, 000 seconds in one year. It seems like a lot at first, but days go by so quickly. Our lives are much shorter than we realize.

Whether you’re 18, 30, or 60, there is no certainty in life. You could have today, you could have tomorrow, you could have nothing.

¨Don’t count the days, Make the days count¨. -Muhhamand Ali

There is no grand secret on how to live life or how to spend your days. But the reality is our time is limited and the seconds are always ticking. So don’t live in the past or relive bad moments all the time. You will have bad days that feel like they last months, you will have good days that feel like they last five minutes.

¨I think when you’re younger, you’re more likely to get stuck on the bad things that happen in life, but the older you get, the easier it gets to put those moments behind you,¨ said Coddle.

Take the time to do things that make you happy, see the world or do things that make you laugh. Make sure to smile or laugh a lot. It’s so easy to get sucked in and always go in that state of mind that ‘I have to do this’, ‘I have to keep working’ and then you become burnt out and unhappy all the time. You have to find the balance that’s in between. It’s all you can do and it’s possible.
