For the third straight season, Stroudsburg’s softball team made the District 11 6A and EPC Tournaments. Now they look to stretch the streak to four straight appearances led by head coach Maynard Frantz.

Frantz, who has been at the helm since 2009, has turned the program in a different direction than what she arrived at. He has taken the program to the District 11 playoffs almost every season and appeared on multiple teams in the EPC tournament. He said that her goal this season is to “be competitive.”

Returning for their senior seasons, Zoe Belau, Vanessa DeFalco, Hannah Helm, Haleigh Mazol, Sierra Thieme, Allison Willis, and Shiloh Wilson, will be key in the Mountaineers’ success this upcoming season.

Other players whom Coach Frantz noted to look out for this season include Dorthy Elko, 10, Jordan Cooke, 9, and Madelyn Vargas, 9. Frantz stated, “We are very excited to see the talent that we have on our team, the bond that the girls develop, and what they can bring this year.”

The softball season kicks off on the road against Pocono Mountain East (Tuesday, 4:00 pm). Frantz says, “We look forward to playing all games, however, we start off the season with Pocono Mountain East and it is always a very competitive game.” Their schedule also includes matchups against East Stroudsburg South (3/21 at home, 4:00 pm, 4/24 at South, 4:00 pm), and a matchup against Whitehall, the team that eliminated them from the playoffs last year (3/27, at Whitehall, 4:00 pm).
