Teacher Feature on Ms. Ayers

Sydney Curry, Staff Writer

At which school in the district do you teach?

I teach at Chipperfield Elementary School.

What subject(s) do you teach?

I teach all subjects being an elementary school teacher.

What grade (s) do you teach?

I teach 4th-grade Learning Support.

How long have you been teaching at SASD?

I have been teaching at SASD for 18 years.

What is your favorite part about teaching?

My favorite part of teaching is the students!  I love being a part of their lives and making sure they have the confidence to succeed. My students are like my own children and they all have a special place in my heart.

What do you find most challenging about being a teacher?

I teach children with learning disabilities so each child is like a puzzle box.  I have to find the right moves and combinations to teach them so they can be successful in their learning.  When we figure it out, it is the most rewarding feeling for me and the child.

What is one piece of advice you would share with your students?

The advice I would share with my students is never to give up, you got this! Working with students with learning disabilities, they always doubt themselves.  If they take one thing away from my class, it is to believe in yourself.  No matter what comes at you in life, you got this, you can do it.  If you feel like you don’t, you always have people around you to remind you that you do.
