Sydney Curry, Staff Writer

At which school in the district do you teach?

I currently teach at Chipperfield elementary school

What subject(s) do you teach?

In first grade, I teach reading, math, writing, social studies, and science

What grade (s) do you teach?

 I teach first grade.

How long have you been teaching at SASD?

This is my nineteenth year in our school district.

What is the most rewarding lesson you have ever taught? Why?

One of my favorite lessons as a teacher was when I taught third grade. Each year, my class would perform the “Grinch” for our school and for our families. My class and I created props, memorized our lines, worked together, and performed this magical play.  We learned so much during this time, all while having fun.  I think most students I had will always remember this too!

What is your favorite part about teaching?

My favorite part of teaching first grade is helping children learn to read and seeing their face light up the first time, they read a book on their own.

What is one piece of advice you would share with your students?

I always try to instill in my students to never stop learning, always have an open mind, and treat others the way you would want to be treated.

How and when did you know that teaching was what you wanted to do?

When I was little, I always played school and I was always the teacher.  I always liked being around children and people in general and I feel my creativity helps me do my job well.
