Hispanic Heritage Month Commemoration

Jonnathan Robles, Staff Writer

What is Hispanic Heritage Month? Why do we even celebrate it? Why is it important? How is the Mountaineer going to commemorate this month?

Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15 of each year and ends on October 15. September 15 is an important date in Hispanic culture because it is the independence day of Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Haiti, and Nicaragua. Both Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence day on September 16.

The main goal of this month is to celebrate the diversity of these Latin American countries. To commemorate the home stretch of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Mountaineer will be celebrating famous Hispanic figures throughout history. We intend to feature poems, artists, foods, famous figures and more!
